Iron County Criminal Court Cases

Iron County court jurisdiction starts with the charge class. The Fifth District Court in Cedar City keeps felony and class A misdemeanor files. Iron County Justice Court handles county class B and C misdemeanors, infractions, and traffic matters within its reach. Cedar City and Enoch also have city justice courts for local filings. A search limited to one clerk can therefore miss a valid case filed by another court.

Parowan adds a local twist. The historic county courthouse and county administration sit there, yet most criminal-file work occurs in Cedar City. The court named on the docket, not the broad phrase “county courthouse,” identifies the custodian. Sheriff reports and jail bookings belong to a separate records chain. They do not contain the judge's final disposition or the court's signed judgment.

Two nearby Cedar City buildings serve different court needs. Fifth District Court is at 40 North 100 East and can be reached at 435-867-3250. Iron County Justice Court is at 82 North 100 East, Suite 101. The latter building is the Iron County Justice Center and also houses the County Attorney in Suite 201. The official Iron County directory is the starting point for county offices based at the Parowan administrative courthouse.

That county directory does not replace the filing court's own records channel. A criminal docket held in Cedar City still belongs with its district or justice court clerk.

Searching Iron County Case Records

Parowan Cases Reached Iron County

Parowan City Justice Court closed on July 1, 2025. Its existing cases transferred to Iron County Justice Court. Anyone following an older Parowan matter should now check the Iron County clerk rather than assume the former city docket remains with Parowan. The transfer also affects where a person asks about a related bench warrant or later order.

The current Iron County Justice Court page carries the transfer notice and local court routes. It also provides plea forms, MyCourtCase routing, and information about remote jail hearings. How a Criminal Case Moves

A Utah criminal matter can begin with an investigation or arrest, but the prosecutor controls the filed charge. A prompt first appearance addresses the accusation and release conditions. The prosecutor may then file a complaint or information. Arraignment records a plea. Disclosure, motions, negotiation, or trial follow before judgment and sentence. An appeal may create a new court record.

That path explains why a booking charge may not match the court file. Charges can be amended or declined, and a later order can change a case after its first result. For Iron County justice-court appeals, local materials state a 28-day filing window. A person facing an active deadline should rely on the clerk's current form and instructions.

Reading Iron County Court Outcomes

Charge, status, and disposition answer different questions. The charge is the allegation. Status describes whether the case is open, closed, or in another procedural state. Disposition records the result. A dismissal, acquittal, guilty plea, or conviction must be read at the count level because one case can contain several outcomes.

Expungement is separate. Utah defines it as sealing or otherwise restricting access to a qualifying record. A Bureau of Criminal Identification eligibility certificate does not clear the case by itself. The person must file in the court of judgment, complete the required notice and objection process, obtain an order, and deliver certified copies as directed.

The official answers are useful when an old Iron County case still appears after a person expected restricted access. They also show why every affected court and agency must receive the final order.

Case Record Access & Restrictions

Utah court records may be public, private, protected, sealed, or otherwise restricted under the judicial access rules. Juvenile delinquency, sealed, and expunged cases do not appear in XChange. Victim and minor identities, Social Security numbers, financial account details, and sensitive active-investigation material may also be withheld or redacted. A blank online result is therefore not proof that no file ever existed.

GRAMA governs many executive-branch records, but court access follows the judiciary's classification system. Do not send a general sheriff request when the needed item is a judgment held by the court.
